Marshfield Columbus Catholic senior thriving in Dons' stellar season after missing junior year battling cancer.

MARSHFIELD - Ryan Dieringer sat in thought, his multi-colored soccer cleats with black laces untied. The Marshfield Columbus Catholic High School senior had made it back to the soccer field. Part of him was ecstatic to just be playing soccer again, but another part was disappointed.

He was coming off nearly a year-long battle with Ewing's sarcoma, and Ryan still wasn't in playing shape. He struggled with his conditioning and getting in the flow.

He started running on the treadmill more often. Glimpses of his old self began returning to the pitch. Then they weren't just glimpses anymore; now he's just Ryan again. Through the course of the season he became a force for the Dons, a key scoring contributor for Columbus Catholic. After the Dons' playoff win Thursday over Nekoosa, the team boasts a 19-2 record.
